Waiting for Saynday: Vessel

Stumbling around in the darkness of this world, in a time before there was even a Sun, Saynday was coming along.  Alone and blinded, he wandered through the darkness with his hands outstretched searching.  Finally his hands felt roughness, the bark of an old cottonwood tree.  Touching his way around the trunk, Saynday felt a hole.  Ever curious, he stuck his hand in the hole only to have another hand grab his.  This is how Saynday, our trickster found the Kiowa and brought them from the darkness of the underworld into this world.  One at a time, each pulling the next through the hole, the Kiowa came into this world.

Water Monster:  Vessel

My grandma, Suzy Big Eagle, used to tell stories of watching the old men put a strange thing in the air during bad storms.  She said it would float way up in the sky and had a long tail.

The Kiowa Water Monster, mythic being from a time long before now.  Part fish, part alligator, part deer, it lives in the long ago memories of the old people.
